8 Amazing Reasons Why Snapchat is the Best App (Don't @ me)
1. Snapchat can already act like a basic phone
I never realized this until one of my friends told me this amazing fact. Let's start with the basic OG features given on Snapchat. You can send pictures and videos to your friends in a very easy and simple way (I would even say easier than iMessage). Later, Snapchat included the feature that allows you to send regular text messages to friends if you aren't in a good location to take a selfie. Finally, that leaves us with phone calls and video calls. If you're unaware, on the same screen that texting is available, you are able to simply press one button, and it will immediately call or video call the person. These are only the basic features that almost every phone has. On top of that, Snapchat offers way more than meets the eye.
2. Snapchat offers simple video and picture editing
I geeked out when I found Snapchat because I could tell they were taking a stab at Instagram with this feature. At its most basic form, people are able to edit pictures with filters and stickers. When Snapchat allowed users to record for longer durations, they were then allowed to crop, add filters, stickers, and even change the sound of their voice in one easy-to-use screen. Same with pictures. It's very basic, but if I ever want to add captions or meme-ify a photo, I will definitely go to Snapchat for that.
3. Snapchat added Bitmoji integration, adding a whole new level of personality to the platform
Bitmoji (if you don't know) is a very basic cartoon avatar of yourself. They offer so many different options to make sure your character looks just like you. With the Bitmoji integration, they allowed you to insert yourself in cartoon form in any picture you could ever take. Want to take a picture of you on top of a tree? just insert yourself!
The addition of Snapmaps was quite controversial when it first came out. People claimed it was dangerous and could lead to unwanted people stalking the user. In my opinion, if the user has people they don't want to have their location following them, then they should delete that person. The SnapMap feature is an amazing way to see where life is happening. If you want to see how close your friend is on the road? Just check the SnapMap! It's super easy and super convenient.
5. Snapchat can get you paid
I remember when Snapchat added this feature a couple of years ago and never thought about it until recently. Your friends can just type in "$4" on a chat, and if your debit card is connected, they can send that money to you. It is super easy, super quick, and also super awesome.
6. Snapchat offers stories for 24 hours
If you just want to generally update everyone on your day to day life, why not just post it on a story for everyone to see? It adds a whole new dimension to the app because what was once private can now be used as a social media platform. Companies and event planners can also create stories that customers and attendees can post to. It's such a great way to show activity in the community.
7. Snapchat offers the latest news
At the palm of your hands, you can get the latest news from multiple different news sources, and it is only one swipe away from your messaging screen. They are all very interactive and allow you to send them to your friends as well.
8. All of these features are available in one easy to download app
In all honesty, if I were told to delete all but one app on my phone, I would definitely keep Snapchat. I can accomplish so much through the many features it offers. Obviously other apps go deeper into the functionality of features, but Snapchat provides all of the basics. That's what I love about it.
